This Week In Doctor Who - January 5, 2005
(posted 5th Jan 2005, 12:42pm - TWIDW post #0269)
THIS WEEK IN DOCTOR WHO
January 5, 2005 - Vol 8, No 1
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/thisweekindoctorwho
The weekly guide to Doctor Who broadcasts worldwide.
26 March 2005?? Outpost Gallifrey http://www.gallifreyone.com has a
report on their news page that their sources are giving 26 March as
the debut date for the new series. Shaun Lyon is fairly certain that
this will be the correct date, but makes it clear that this is NOT
an official announcement - the BBC hasn't said anything. When the
premiere date approaches there will be trailers, including radio
trailers on BBC 7.
The teaser trailer that the Doctor Who website has
http://www.bbc.co.uk/cult/doctorwho appeared in an end of the year
round up on BBC 4 on 31 December and in an altered form on BBC 1 at
9:03PM on 1 January just before a Vicar Of Dibley special. In the
altered version, the new logo zoomed over a space vortex instead of
moving to left across the screen.
US fans - no network has announced a contract for the series yet.
There are no recent rumors on who might pick Doctor Who up. But
there are a couple of sites you may want to keep your eye on for the
next couple of weeks, just in case.
http://www.ncta.com/releases/TCA_schedule_Jan2005.pdf has the
schedule for the cable portion of the Television Critics Association
winter press tour happening next week (January 11 through 14).
Networks will announce projects for the next 6 months (some with
premiere dates) and try to get attention for them. This .pdf file is
expanding as new projects are put on the agenda for the tour.
Currently Doctor Who is not one of these projects. I'd also keep an
eye on http://www.thefutoncritic.com , as The Futon Critic pays
close attention to the TCA tours and has daily updates on projects
during the tour on his site. Obviously, there won't be any mention
of Doctor Who unless a network signs a contract and picks it up.
Unless you are in the UK, Canada, or New Zealand, no contract has
been announced for the series yet.
